It was a fun day down in Benton for our Webber-Wayne Track and field programs as both the girls and boys had several strong showings in a big 2A meet.
The PRs started from several of our freshman in the field events with Jace Barnard throwing 28'9" in the shot, Ellie Talbert and Kadi Bain both jumping PR jumps in the long jump with Talbert getting 5th with a 14'7" PR jump, and Ava Minor hitting a PR of 4'8" in the high jump to place 4th!
The sprint crews kept the PRs coming with the boys 4x100 crew of James Walker, Grayson Fairchild, Damian Fleener and Nikkos Ulm placing 4th.
Our distance crew finished off the day with some great races, starting with Alexis Johnson in the 800 getting a PR of 2:45! Brennan Tate and Colter Stone followed up her PR with their own PR times of 2:20 and 2:22!
The open 400 for the boys produced our best finish of the day with 3 boys landing in the top 8! Damian Fleener led the way with a time of 56.07(PR) for 3rd overall, then Jaxon Dalby with a time of 56.53(PR) for 6th overall, and finally Nathaniel Marlow landing 8th with a time of 56.62(PR)!
The race of the day came from freshman Connor Withrow, who PR'd in the Mile with a time of 5:48! He had previously had a best time of 6:23 that he ran last week! This is Connors first time breaking 6:00 minutes and he did it with plenty of time to spare!
Overall it was a great day for a great group of kids!

We wish Alexis nothing but the best in her future races!

This is just a reminder that tomorrow, Friday, March 22, high school sports pictures will be taken for Track, Baseball, and Softball.

Washington DC kids and parents will have a meeting at the school on April 11th @ 6:00 pm.

And the hits just keep coming! Hey, when you're good you're good, tell people. In a year where we have had sooo many teams fare well in the post season and individuals that have racked up the accolades, we have yet another. Our Rookie Sensation HS Boys Basketball Coach Jaxon Helm has ben named Co-Coach of the Year (along with Waltonville's Anthony Lowery) by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association for District 20. Couldn't be any prouder of one of my coaches. Great job coach. There will be more of these I believe.
