The Bluford Board of Education held its regular January Board meeting on Thursday, January 18, 2024. The following items were discussed and action taken:
1. Approval of the Consent Agenda, including Minutes for the December 19, 2023 Tax Levy Hearings for the Grade School, High School, and Unit Districts; Minutes for the December 19, 2023 Regular Board of Education Meeting; Executive Session Minutes from December 19, 2023 to remain confidential; Bills for January 2024; Financial Reports for December 2023;Suspensions Imposed by Building Administrators for December 2023;
2. Superintendent, Principals and Maintenance Reports were given. The superintendent's report included information about mid-year finances, as well as an update from the Curriculum Committee to revert back to a traditional semester scheduling format for the 2024-2025 school year. The reasoning was justified for continuity of instruction, as well as reducing class sizes in the JH, and allowing for more seamless local scheduling options.
Principals reports highlighted students activities, current enrollments, and upcoming events. Building report included updates from recent minor maintenance to the building and grounds.
3. One FOIA Request was received after the agenda was published which was from the Illinois Retired Teachers Association about any retirees this year, which the district has none.
4. The Board entered into Executive Session and the following items were approved following executive session:
- Accepted the letter of resignation from Sherri Cramer as HS Student Supervisor/Aide effective at the end of the 2023-2024 school year;
- Approved the posting of a HS Student Supervisor/Aide for the 2024-2025 school year;
- Employed Olivia Heinzman as 3rd Grade Teacher at Bluford Grade School for the 2024-2025 school year, pending certification;
- Employed Allyson Jones as 5th Grade Teacher at Bluford Grade School for the 2024-2025 school year, pending certification;
- Approved Chad Shreeves as a Volunteer Assistant JH Bowling Coach for the 2023-2024 season
