BOE News

The Bluford Board of Education held its regular July Board meeting on Thursday, July 20, 2023.  The following items were discussed and action taken:

1. Approval of the consent agenda.

2. Superintendent, Principals and Maintenance Reports included thank you's from all the administrators new to their positions to the Board. Principals discussed the progress being made on handbooks and plans for the upcoming year. The superintendent shared that registration details are being finalized. Maintenance report included progress on the HVAC work in the grade school as well as new carpet installed in 3 classrooms. The Jr. High gym floor is being painted this week and should be all finished in about two weeks.

3. The Board was informed about the need for transportation options for handicap access. The district will continue to explore options for transporting students that are wheelchair bound.

4. The board approved the final reading of Board Policy Updates, from June 2023 Press Plus Update 112.

5. The board accepted bids from Prairie Farms for dairy products and from Synergy for fuel products for the 2023-2024 school year.

6. The board approved the FY22 single audit completed by Kujawa & Batteau, PC.

7. The board approved the Letter of Engagement for Kujawa & Batteau, PC to complete the FY23 audit.

8. The board authorized the Superintendent and District Bookkeeper to prepare the FY2024 tentative budget.

9. The board set the FY 2024 Budget Hearing for September 21, 2023 at 5:45PM in the BUSD District Office.

10. The board approved As-Built Drawings for district facilities by Eggemeyer Associates Architects, not to exceed $5,000.

11. The board adopted the IRS mileage rate of .655 cents per mile for reimbursement.

12. The board approved the following annual resolutions:

  • Designate Mr. Adam Cross as the Title IX Coordinator/Grievance Officer for the District;
  • Designate Mr. Adam Cross as the non-discrimination coordinator for the District;
  • Appoint two (2) complaint managers for sexual harassment or sexual discrimination complaints for the District as being Mrs. Amanda Strohschein and Dr. Ryan Robinson;
  • Designate District Foster Care Liaison as being Mrs. Christina Wilson

13. Following executive session the Board approved the following personnel items:

  • Accept the resignation of Manda Sellers as grade school teacher  
  • Accept the letter of retirement from Sam Settle, custodian effective October 31, 2023
  • Employee McKenzie Bejma as High School English Teacher, Brittany Bechtel as Grade School Special Education ParaProfessional, Matt Strain as High School Head Baseball Coach, Jeremy Tate as High School Assistant Baseball Coach, and Sierra Forristall as High School Assistant Girls Basketball Coach
  • The district approved to post for a grade school teacher and district custodian.
  • Approved the salary increase of the non-union district bookkeeper and secretary position
  • Approve to extend Mr. Bob Herzing to work up to 3 days per week, not to exceed 120 days for the 2023-2024 school year.
