The Bluford Board of Education held its regular January meeting on Thursday, January 19.
Information from administration was shared with the Board that included:
Attendance and discipline data for the first half of the school year.
Extra-curricular schedules for the end of the winter seasons.
The high school Scholar Bowl team won the MTC Conference for the fourth year in a row!
A draft of the 2023-2024 school calendar was discussed.
The annual health life safety inspection results were shared. For the second year in a row, there were zero building violations.
The Board acted on the following personnel related items. Julie Lusby resigned from her position as an administrative assistant to pursue a position with the State of Illinois. Additionally, high school technology teacher, Stephanie Wilson, was officially hired after earning her Career and Technical Educator license. Sebrina Krumweide was hired as the assistant junior high volleyball coach. The final personnel item that was discussed pertained to the high school principal position. Mrs. Nicole Henson will transfer from the elementary principal position to the high school principal position for the 2023-2024 school year. Mrs. Henson has served the district in an administrative role for seven years, including three as the K-12 principal. Of the transition, Mrs. Henson stated that she “is excited to continue serving the school district in another capacity.”
In other action items, the Board approved the annual Beta Club state convention trip in March. The graduation date was officially set. Eighth grade graduation will be Saturday, May 20 at 9:30 a.m. in the high school gymnasium. High school graduation will be Saturday, May 20 at 11:00 a.m. in the high school gymnasium.
The Board approved three new high school courses for next school year including Large Animal Care, Natural Resources and Management, and Drone Operation and Maintenance.
Lastly, the Board approved a bid for a building security system. The district had the unfortunate experience of a burglary over Christmas break, so the burglar alarm will help protect the building and district assets when school is not in session.
The next regularly scheduled Board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, February 16, at 6:00 p.m. in the district office.
