We read Schools Around the World by Margaret C. Hall.  Everyone enjoyed reading about schools that are different from ours.  We worked on using text structure and locating information in nonfiction material.

During this theme, we had a wonderful time learning about our world. 
We learned about hemispheres, the equator, and the prime meridian. 
We completed maps, we read books about where we live, and made models of our Earth. 
We started with the hemispheres and continents and worked our way down to our community of Bluford.

While learning about the seven continents, each student completed a continent investigation.  They researched their continent and wrote a report.  They also designed a background based on their continent.  The final step involved finding a map and and images from the internet to include with their findings.

We enjoyed a tasty treat to finish our study of Illinois. 
Each child identified bodies of water, cities, resources, and places of interest in Illinois!
