Dental Health

We learned it is very important to take care of our teeth. We learned that we should brush at least two times a day, floss, and we should eat healthy foods. We made tooth mobiles, wrote about teeth and the tooth fairy, and conducted an "Egg"speriment. For our "egg"speriment, Ms. Gieselman hard boiled an egg for each of us. Just like enamel protects our teeth, an eggshell protects an egg. Ms. Gieselman told us that if we do not brush our teeth and eat junk food and candy, our teeth can become stained. On Tuesday, we put our eggs in coke. We let them soak in the coke until Thursday afternoon. We couldn't believe how much the coke stained the egg shells. They were dark brown. We learned that even missing one night of brushing our teeth can cause staining and cavities. We used toothbrushes with soap and water to brush the stains off our our eggs. We then soaked the eggs in vinegar to show how cavities can eat holes into our teeth. We had a great time with this "egg"speriment. We observed the changes in our eggs using magnifying glasses and also recorded our observations in our Scientist Log. Take a look at our pictures!
